The man became a legend in the NPWA under the name Doctor Dream. He reigned as the NPWA Champion twice and had a combined reign of over two years. He was a half of two of the greatest teams in NPWA history - The Dream Team and The Twin Towers, with dominant reigns as British Tag Team Champion. Plus he was only ever pinned three times, once by Richard Noble in a highly controversial match and once by Paul "Flash" Andrews and The Slayer in the main event of Night Of Champions 2.
However, on Friday the 18th February 2005 Luke Marsden announced that he had bought the rights to the Doctor Dream gimmick in an attempt to remove him from the company. The idea was that fans would lose their connection with him, and his appearances and merchandise sales would plummet forcing him to go elsewhere. But the man formally known as Dream has refused to go and has emerged with a new name, new look and new attitude. We give you, Gary Wild.
Wild began a new legacy and was still one of the best wrestlers in the NPWA.
It took time to rebuild himself but a renewed connection with Paul "Flash" Andrews lead to a Dream Team reunion and a third reign as tag team champion. Then in October 2005 (almost exactly two years after his devastating loss of the Heavyweight Title at Night of Champions 2) he reached the top once again with a win over The Slayer.
However, Wild had several setbacks in 2006, despite surviving challenges from Phobia, Brickwall and El Aquas a serious hand injury kept him out of the ring for several months. Even when he returned to action Governor Luke Marsden was able to outsmart and embarrass the NPWA legend once again and took away his Championship at STS5. Wild showed that he values his friends more than personal glory when he handed over the NPWA Championship in exchange for Enigma’s career in the NPWA.
He gave the title to Governor Marsden to keep it away from the wrestlers in the Governing Body, but that did not take anything away from the pain and embarrassment that went with it.
The start of 2007 saw Marsden fired by Tony McManus so Gary Wild decided to take up the role of NPWA Governor and step away from the ring for the time being. Hopefully he will be able to control the wrestlers in his management role as well as he did in direct competition.
Wild’s return to action in 2007 would be as part of the North-South Connection. Alongside his good friend Jonny Storm he would take the Tag Team Championship for the fourth time, defeating The Fireball and Adrian Myers at Night of Champions 6.
